No matter what you blog about, it’s best that you blog with a purpose, which means that you’ll need some type of blog subject to focus on. While you’re deciding which platform is best for your blog, you should also think about the subject matter on which you’ll base and build your personal, professional or business blog.
Answer a Question With a Question
As you’re rattling your head for a strong blog idea, ask yourself these questions:
- What’s a problem your readers will want to solve?
- What are fears your readers will want to rid themselves of?
- What’s something new you can teach your readers?
- Is there a goal your readers want to reach?
- How can you best entertain your readers?
Once you’ve answered these questions, you can start figuring out where your expertise or passion intersects with your blog audience. Also, it’s best that you think long term while answering these questions, otherwise your blog might be grounded before it starts to take off.
Tighten Your Focus
Once you’ve decided on a blog subject, ask yourself if there is a specific niche you can focus on. For instance, if you’re blogging about writing, is there a specific genre you want to focus on? Will you only focus on the creative aspects of writing, or will you also be blogging about the business of writing? The more specific your niche, the better. Another reason to choose a niche is to make it that much easier for people to find you and your blog.
All of that being said, you’ll want to make sure your niche isn’t broad enough that there are already several other people blogging about it. Your niche also shouldn’t be so narrow that you limit the size of your audience. A nice middle ground is your best bet.
Once you’ve decided what your blog should be about and the platform you’ll be using to share your thoughts with the world, you’ll want to make an ongoing list of future blog posts as well as a schedule for when you’ll publish your posts. Best of luck!
